Sup y'all!
Yes, this is how I decided to start my first post.
Today I woke up feeling energised after a good night's sleep and after spending a lovely time with two girlfriends last night. In five days, I’m leaving to go from Edinburgh, the city I live in, to my hometown Palmanova in Italy. What makes it special is that this time I have decided to do it by land, meaning I won’t take a plane. Is it a bit non-sensical and silly? Yaaaaass.
Recently, I went from a job I had been in for about five years to a new role that I had wanted for quite a while. Things didn’t go as planned - do they ever? - and the project I was going to work for got pushed back a few years so some of us got made redundant. Not the best situation, but shit happens so after letting go of all the sad emotions that I needed to feel, I decided I might as well look at the bright side and realise that now I have got TIME.
This is what I have decided to do with this time. I am passionate about the environment and I try to live a balanced and environmentally sustainable life, and I love traveling. A few years ago I wondered how I could go back to Italy without creating a huge environmental impact. The flight Edinburgh-Venice is less than 3 hours long, the drive there would be 25+ hours and you need to add stops to that. If I have a two-weeks holiday, at least five days would be wasted driving there and back. But now I don’t have only two weeks, I’ve got a lot more time! No, I’m not tired of this word. Time, time, TIME.
So this is what I’m doing. I am not only going from A to B; I am making it a journey. I have friends in different countries in Europe, and I am going to reconnect with as many of these friends as I possibly can, while on my way back to my hometown.
It’s a journey through Europe. It’s a reconnection with older friends and a journey through myself too. A lot has changed in my life in the past few weeks as well as in the past year, and I am looking forward to realign within.
I am not going to tell you my journey right now, but I hope you will come back to find out about it.
Lots of love from a cloudy Edinburgh,
Donatella
